How to make money
building websites
I’ve built sites for clients myself and I know how it works from the inside. It has become far simpler: you paste links, AI generates the site, you sell it from $150. No code, no courses, no unnecessary motions.
No experience. No code.
First client — within 7 days.
The workflow of
the AI editor
This isn’t a template builder — with those you still get stuck for half a day. This is a different story: you show the AI what you like, it builds a site from scratch. You only adjust it for the client.
You paste competitor links
You find 2–3 sites you or your client like and paste the URLs. You can describe it in words as well: «dark, minimal, gold accents». Everything in order.
AI generates a finished site
A few minutes later you get a completely finished HTML layout — structure, blocks, colors, typography. Not a template — a genuinely unique site built for your brief.
Two ways to refine it
The site opens in the editor. From there it’s your choice. Both work, pick whichever suits you:
You click on the blocks
Click any element — text, button, photo — and change it right there. Like using a finger on a phone. No code at all.
You write what to change
You write in the chat: «change the background to black», «remove this block», «make the button bigger» — and you get the updated layout back. The AI does all of it itself.
Done — you hand it to the client
The client gets a professional site. You get $150–$500 for work that took under an hour. That’s the whole point.
Why most people
never start
I’ve talked about making money with websites enough to know that people will always find a reason not to start. Here are the most popular ones. And why they don’t hold up.
«I’m not a programmer»
You don’t need to be. You paste links, the AI builds the layout. Want to adjust it — you click, or you write in the chat. You never touch code.
«Where do I find clients?»
Classifieds sites, local business groups on social media, business chats. Walk around your own town — most small businesses still don’t have a decent site.
«I have no portfolio»
Generate your first site for yourself in 30 minutes — there’s your portfolio. After two real jobs the question stops coming up at all.
«It takes ages to learn»
One day to get to grips with the editor. That’s less than any online course, and unlike a course you’re building a real site straight away.
«I tried, it didn’t work»
You tried without a decent tool. Trial and error works, but only when your entry point is right. Here it is.
«This is only for the chosen few»
No. It’s for anyone willing to try once with a sensible process. The process exists. Read on.
The best niches for selling websites
Not all businesses buy websites equally well. Here are the niches where demand is high, competition among freelancers is low, and the money is decent. Ideal for a start.
Beauty and health
Salons, barbershops, cosmetologists. Online booking and a good-looking portfolio of work is all they need.
$150 — $400Construction and renovation
They sell by word of mouth and have no idea what they’re losing. A site with a request form changes the picture fast.
$200 — $600Medical and dental
They pay above average and understand why they need a site. They value quality and don’t cut corners.
$300 — $900Cafés and restaurants
Menu, delivery, reservations. They want the site to look appetizing — AI handles that beautifully.
$150 — $450Lawyers and accountants
They pay steadily, rarely haggle and value a serious look. A good niche for repeat work.
$200 — $700Fitness and sport
Trainers and gyms need a schedule and online booking. A templated project you can put together in an hour.
$150 — $400IT and freelancers
They need a portfolio site. Small budget, but it gets done fast and with no revisions — they know what they want themselves.
$100 — $300Education and tutors
A huge market with almost no decent sites. Easy to get into — few freelance competitors.
$150 — $500What people pay
Frequently asked
No. You paste links, the AI generates the layout. Want to change something — you click or write a prompt. I built sites for clients myself and never once opened a code editor.
The first month is learning and finding clients. Realistically you can close 1–2 deals at $150–$300. Not a truckload of money, but a start. From the second or third month, once you have reviews, the numbers grow.
Classifieds sites under «Services», local business groups on social media, entrepreneurs’ Telegram chats. The fastest route is to find a business in your own town with no site and write to them directly with an example of your work.
Practically none. You need a computer and an internet connection. Hosting and the domain for a client’s site are usually paid for by the client. One of the few niches where you can genuinely start from zero.
Outside the big cities it’s actually easier — the competition is lower and the demand is the same. In a small town it’s enough to be the only decent option. That isn’t as hard as it sounds.
Making money building websites: how it actually works
I’ll tell it straight. I built sites for clients myself — and I know it works. I ran the ads, built the landing pages, sold them to businesses. The niche is real, the money is real, and the barrier to entry is lower now than it has ever been.
Small business is moving online fast, and a large share of the companies founded in the last few years have owners with no idea how a website gets built. Demand for simple landing pages and corporate sites is high, and there aren’t enough decent people doing them at affordable prices. That’s your way in.
How making money works with landing pages
A landing page is a one-page site with one job: get a request or sell a product. That’s 70% of all the orders in this niche. A hair salon, a dental practice, a fitness trainer, a lawyer — every one of them wants a page where a client can book or leave their details. That is a landing page.
The market price is $150 to $500 for a simple landing page. Do 3–4 a month and that’s $450–2000 extra. With the AI editor one landing page takes 1–2 hours. Not days — hours. Which is why scaling this is realistic.
How to find your first client with no portfolio
The beginner’s main question is who will hire someone with no experience. Here’s the answer. This is the process that works:
- Generate 2–3 demo sites for real or invented businesses — that’s your portfolio
- Write to 10–20 businesses in your town that have no site or a bad one
- Do the first site for a token price, or free in exchange for a review
- After two jobs with reviews, the portfolio question stops coming up
A classifieds site under «Services» is the simplest start. You create a listing, attach examples, state your price and your turnaround. Enquiries arrive in the first week. Tested.
Building sites with AI: not the future, already here
A site used to take several days. You needed HTML, CSS, a page builder and a pile of time. Now you show it what you want, the AI builds the layout, and you adjust it with clicks. The speed went up 5–10 times.
Which means you can take more orders in the same time. Do better work. And raise your price while you’re at it — because the result looks professional, even though it was made in an hour.
How much you can earn building websites per month
The real figures, stage by stage:
- First 1–2 months: 1–3 landing pages at $150–$250 = $150–$750. That’s the start, not the ceiling
- Months 3–6: 4–6 projects of varying size = $800–$2500. Now it gets interesting
- From 6 months on: regular clients, referrals, higher prices = $2000–$5000+
There is no ceiling. When there are more orders than you can handle, you hire someone on the same process. That’s how a freelancer grows into a small agency. I’ve seen it work. Everything in order — in the channel.
